Birth defect disabilities are estimated to affect more than 120,000 children in the United States every year. Approximately 3% of babies, or 1 of every 33, are born with a structural birth defect. Birth defects are one of main the causes of infant deaths. Babies born with birth defects have a greater chance of illness and long-term disability than babies born without birth defects. Also, babies born with birth defects are more likely to be born preterm than babies without birth defects. Birth defects account for approximately 30% of all pediatric hospital admissions.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the cost of raising a child to the age of 18 is around $240,000 but that figure can quadruple for a child with birth defect disabilities. Most of the increases are due to special-needs medical services. On top of that, there are extra-ordinary expenditures for special food, clothing, housing and travel. A recent study that tackled these extra-ordinary costs, found families will spend around $10,000 annually in addition to their usual child-care cost.
FCD Cares is a Public Charity Nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the special needs of Children with Birth Defect Disabilities and their poverty-level Families that are struggling financially. FCD Cares initiative's intent is to provide resources and financial assistance to offset the Extra-Ordinary cost of caring for children with birth defect disabilities. Through the collective voices of our members and contributors, we advocate and raise awareness about the plight of Children with Birth Defect Disabilities and their suffering low-income poverty level Families.
